While Working from Home

It is so easy to allow your professional and personal life to bleed into each other when you work and live in the same place. I have been working remotely for about three years now. During this time, I was forced to learn lessons in work-life balance. If you are new to remote work or just struggling with learning how to balance, I am here to share my experience and how I have adjusted my practices to make my life more manageable.

  1. Separate Spaces

Part of the appeal of remote work is being able to work from your couch, right? What about doing housework while you attend meetings? While all of this sounds amazing, if you bring your professional work into your personal space, you will start to experience that bleed over.

In my house, I have converted the sun porch into a dedicated office space. I only go in there while I’m working, and I rarely bring my work out. If you don’t have the space to dedicate an entire room, grab a corner in a room. Before we moved into our current home, I took up a corner in our living room.

I find that having a specific workspace helps me focus on what I need to do. I have an ongoing to-do list of housework. If I am working outside of my office, I feel compelled to complete that list instead of my…
